St. Martin

A Saint Martin vacation can be like combining three exotic destinations in one – a trip to the Caribbean with one to both France and the Netherlands. The Island of Saint Martin is divided into two halves, one side the French Guadeloupe and the other the Dutch Netherland Antilles. “The French side”, Saint-Martin, is slightly than “the Dutch side”, known as Sint Maarten.

The border between the two countries is defined only by a few signs and monuments. However, they do use different power systems – so when packing any electrical devices for your St. Martin’s trip, make sure to bring the right power converters along!
With two completely different halves of the island to choose from, Saint Martin has something for everyone. Nature lovers will probably chose to visit the French side, which is full of natural beauty, sandy beaches and rocky coves. Those looking for a little extra night life will probably prefer the Dutch side, which is more highly developed and full of casinos and night clubs. Of course, if you want it all, a quick visit to a Saint Martin’s rental car agency will provide you with the option to get anywhere within minutes.
Philipsburg on the Dutch side of Saint Martin is a popular cruise ship destination, because there’s so much to see and do on the island. Visit Butterfly farm and stroll underneath a net tent filled with beautiful butterflies. Or for a little more adventure, visit The Fly Zone at Loterie Farm – a Zip Line tour and obstacle course high in the trees! And of course Saint Martin has a number of beautiful beaches for sunning, swimming and snorkeling. Topless bathing is common and Orient Beach on the French side and Cupecoy Bay on the Dutch side are both nude beaches.
Most Saint Martin’s hotels tend to be on the pricier side, although there are a few budget options. December through April are peak travel times times, but on Saint Martin’s, there’s something to do any time of year!
