Bermuda

138 islands connected by bridges make up the British colony of Bermuda, but most residents simply refer to the entire chain as simply “the island”. Further north than the Caribbean community, the warm waters of the Gulf Stream still give Bermuda a quasi-tropical atmosphere. Bermuda is famous for the beautiful pink sandy beaches, including Horseshoe Bay Beach, that make snorkeling and swimming a genuine pleasure.

Bermuda vacations first became popular during the days of Queen Victoria and a trip to Bermuda is still a treat today. A favorite cruise ship destination, a single ship may stop at multiple ports of call – Hamilton, Saint George or The Dockyard.
Because there is no car rental available in the island, alternate modes of transportation are popular. In addition to the wonderful bus and taxi system, Bermuda moped rentals are extremely popular among tourists who want to zip along at their own pace.
When looking for a place to eat, try a local specialty such as cassava pie, bay grape jelly or Bermuda beans. And for a more economical meal, go a little further afield when searching for a Bermuda restaurant – as a rule of thumb, the further you are from one of the cruise ship ports, the less expensive your meals!
Most Bermuda hotels offer luxury accommodations, with easy access to both the beautiful beaches and numerous golf courses. History buffs may enjoy touring the large number of forts or visiting Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, one of the oldest cast iron structures in the world. And nature lovers can have a great time at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo, Devil’s Hole Aquarium or visiting Crystal and Fantasy Caves.
